Dr. Michalis Arvanitidis is a physiotherapist specializing in Musculoskeletal Health and Spinal Rehabilitation. He graduated from the Department of Physiotherapy at TEI of Lamia and continued his postgraduate studies at the University of Birmingham, where he earned his MSc in Advanced Manipulative Physiotherapy. As part of his training, he became a member of the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP), a globally recognized association for high-level expertise in managing musculoskeletal conditions.

Research Background

He completed his doctoral dissertation at the Centre of Precision Rehabilitation for Spinal Pain (CPR Spine) at the University of Birmingham, focusing on neuromuscular control in individuals with low back pain, using state-of-the-art technologies.

Currently, he works as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham, participating in the international research program: “Cervical Spine and Muscle Adaptation after Spaceflight and Relationship to Herniation Risk”, which is conducted in collaboration with NASA and the ESA in Houston, Texas. His research focuses on the adaptations of the cervical spine and neck muscles following missions to the International Space Station, and their association with the risk of disc herniation.

The findings of this research are expected to contribute significantly to the development of preventive strategies for the protection of astronauts, as well as to a deeper understanding of the mechanisms that lead to disc herniations in the general population.
